World of Warcraft Forever Cooking Guide: Leveling 1-300
Discover the new campfire mechanics and optimal recipe paths to efficiently max out your culinary skills from Apprentice to Artisan.
The Overhaul of Culinary Arts
Cooking in World of Warcraft: Forever received a massive overhaul from the original Classic experience. Developers updated the profession system heavily to fix long-standing issues. Identifying familiar mechanics is easy, considering the fundamental leveling process still feels remarkably fresh. It actually reminds me of how rewarding professions felt in my Elder Scrolls Online review. Old town cooking fires no longer function at all. Design teams shifted the focus toward social gameplay by requiring player-made campfires instead. Starter recipes experienced a major streamlining process to prevent early exploits. That lazy route of buying flour and spices from a vendor to bake bread all the way to level 50 is gone.
Apprentice Cooking (1-50)
Start by visiting a Cooking Supply vendor near your local trainer. Buying basic ingredients directly from them is much cheaper than falling for Auction House traps. Pick up plenty of Mild Spices, Hot Spices, Soothing Spices, and Refreshing Spring Water.
To reach level 50, you need to produce around 55 items from any of the following introductory recipes.
| Recipe | Required Ingredients | Recipe Source & Location |
|---|---|---|
| Brilliant Smallfish | 1x Uncooked Brilliant Smallfish | Harn Longcast (Mulgore), Sewa Mistrunner (Thunder Bluff), Martine Tramblay (Tirisfal Glades), Lizbeth Cromwell (Undercity), Gretta Ganter (Dun Morogh), Tharynn Bouden (Elwynn Forest), Khara Deepwater (Loch Modan), Catherine Leland (Stormwind), Nyoma (Teldrassil) |
| Slitherskin Mackerel | 1x Uncooked Slitherskin Mackerel | Zansoa (Durotar), Martine Tramblay (Tirisfal Glades), Tansy Puddlefizz (Ironforge), Nessa Shadowsong (Teldrassil), Kriggon Talsone (Westfall) |
| Charred Wolf Meat | 1x Stringy Wolf Meat | Learned directly from your Trainer |
| Roasted Boar Meat | 1x Chunk of Boar Meat | Learned directly from your Trainer |
| Herb Baked Egg | 1x Small Egg, 1x Mild Spices | Learned directly from your Trainer |
Faction-specific alternatives exist if you have the right local ingredients. Horde players with Meaty Bat Wings should seek out Abigail Shiel in Tirisfal Glades for the Crispy Bat Wing recipe. Grimtak in Durotar sells the Scorpid Surprise recipe if youโve collected Scorpid Stingers. Alliance players holding Small Spider Legs can complete the โRecipe of the Kaldoreiโ quest from Zarrin in Teldrassil to learn Kaldorei Spider Kabob.
Journeyman Cooking (50-150)
Return to your trainer once you hit 50 to learn Journeyman Cooking. Upgrading your cap beforehand is vital if you plan to walk away from your keyboard during a long crafting session. Without the Journeyman upgrade, your progress halts exactly at 75. Watching a character burn through 40 pieces of meat for zero experience is a specific kind of agony.
Skill Levels 50-100
Produce about 55 of the following items. Smoked Bear Meat turns yellow in your spellbook sooner than the other options. Cook your bear meat first if your bags are full of mixed ingredients.
| Recipe | Required Ingredients | Recipe Source & Location |
|---|---|---|
| Longjaw Mud Snapper | 1x Uncooked Longjaw Mud Snapper | Harn Longcast (Mulgore), Killian Sanatha (Silverpine), Naal Mistrunner (Thunder Bluff), Lizbeth Cromwell (Undercity), Tharynn Bouden (Elwynn), Tansy Puddlefizz (Ironforge), Khara Deepwater (Loch Modan), Nyoma (Teldrassil) |
| Rainbow Fin Albacore | 1x Uncooked Rainbow Fin Albacore | Zansoa (Durotar), Shankys (Orgrimmar), Killian Sanatha (Silverpine), Ronald Burch (Undercity), Heldan Galesong (Darkshore), Catherine Leland (Stormwind), Nessa Shadowsong (Teldrassil), Kriggon Talsone (Westfall), Stuart Fleming (Wetlands), Kilxx (The Barrens) |
| Smoked Bear Meat | 1x Bear Meat | Andrew Hilbert (Silverpine Forest), Drac Roughcut (Loch Modan) |
| Boiled Clams | 1x Clam Meat, 1x Refreshing Spring Water | Learned directly from your Trainer |
| Coyote Steak | 1x Coyote Meat | Learned directly from your Trainer |
| Strider Stew | 1x Strider Meat, 1x Shiny Red Apple | Tariโqa in The Barrens (Horde), โEasy Strider Livingโ Quest Reward (Alliance) |
Skill Levels 100-130
Your next milestone requires crafting 30 to 40 items.
| Recipe | Required Ingredients | Recipe Source & Location |
|---|---|---|
| Bristle Whisker Catfish | 1x Uncooked Bristle Whisker Catfish | Derak Nightfall & Lindea Rabonne (Hillsbrad), Naal & Sewa Mistrunner (Thunder Bluff), Ronald Burch (Undercity), Catherine Leland (Stormwind), Kilxx (The Barrens) |
| Crab Cake | 1x Crawler Meat, 1x Mild Spices | Learned directly from your Trainer |
| Dry Pork Ribs | 1x Boar Ribs, 1x Mild Spices | Learned directly from your Trainer |
| Cooked Crab Claw | 1x Crawler Claw, 1x Mild Spices | Kendor Kabonka in Stormwind City (Alliance only) |
Skill Levels 130-150
Pushing to 150 takes roughly 25 more crafts. Keep making Bristle Whisker Catfish if you have leftover materials from the previous tier.
| Recipe | Required Ingredients | Recipe Source & Location |
|---|---|---|
| Curiously Tasty Omelet | 1x Raptor Egg, 1x Hot Spices | Kendor Kabonka in Stormwind City (Alliance), Keena in Arathi Highlands (Horde) |
| Goblin Deviled Clams | 1x Tangy Clam Meat, 1x Hot Spices | Learned directly from your Trainer |
| Hot Lion Chops | 1x Lion Meat, 1x Hot Spices | Zargh in The Barrens (Horde only) |
Expert Cooking (150-225)
Breaking the 150 barrier requires a specific book rather than a standard trainer visit. You need to reach a skill level of 125 before reading the Expert Cookbook. Horde characters must purchase this manual from Wulan in Desolace at Shadowprey Village. Alliance characters will buy theirs from Shandrina in Ashenvale at Mystral Lake. Forgetting to buy this book early means taking a very long flight path later.
Skill Levels 150-175
Whip up about 25 of either option below. The omelet recipe turns yellow around 170, meaning you might need to crack a few extra eggs to reach 175.
| Recipe | Required Ingredients | Recipe Source & Location |
|---|---|---|
| Curiously Tasty Omelet | 1x Raptor Egg, 1x Hot Spices | Kendor Kabonka (Stormwind City), Keena (Arathi Highlands) |
| Hot Lion Chops | 1x Lion Meat, 1x Hot Spices | Zargh in The Barrens (Horde only) |
Skill Levels 175-225
Prepare 50 portions from the list below. All three choices turn yellow at 215, making those final ten points slightly stubborn.
| Recipe | Required Ingredients | Recipe Source & Location |
|---|---|---|
| Mithril Headed Trout | 1x Uncooked Mithril Head Trout | WikโTar (Ashenvale), Shankys (Orgrimmar), Kelsey Yance (Stranglethorn Vale), Lizbeth Cromwell (Undercity), Tansy Puddlefizz (Ironforge), Stuart Fleming (Wetlands), Wulan (Desolace), Heldan Galesong (Darkshore), Lindea Rabonne (Hillsbrad) |
| Roast Raptor | 1x Raptor Flesh, 1x Hot Spices | Hammon Karwn & Keena (Arathi Highlands), Oggโmarr (Dustwallow Marsh) |
| Soothing Turtle Bisque | 1x Turtle Meat, 1x Soothing Spices | Quest Reward in Hillsbrad Foothills (Christoph Jeffcoat or Chef Jessen) |
Artisan Cooking (225-300)
Reaching the highest tier requires completing the โClamlette Surpriseโ quest in Gadgetzan. You must be at least level 35 with a skill of 225 to accept it.
Start by picking up the breadcrumb quest. Zamja in Orgrimmar offers โTo Gadgetzan You Go!โ for the Horde. Daryl Riknussun in Ironforge gives โI Know A Guyโฆโ to the Alliance. You need to gather 12 Giant Eggs, 10 Zesty Clam Meat, and 20 Alterac Swiss cheese wedges. Do not fly to Tanaris before securing every single item. Making that desert run twice is a rookie mistake.
Find Dirge Quikcleave inside the Gadgetzan inn. Handing him the ingredients completes the quest and immediately grants you Artisan rank. Run down to Steamwheedle Port on the coast and buy every recipe Gikkix sells. Youโll need three of them for the final leveling stretch.
Skill Levels 225-275
Cook 65 of the following meals. Extending these recipes up to 285 is perfectly viable if your local economy has cheap fish or meat.
| Recipe | Required Ingredients | Recipe Source & Location |
|---|---|---|
| Spotted Yellowtail | 1x Uncooked Spotted Yellowtail | Gikkix (Tanaris) |
| Filet of Redgill | 1x Uncooked Redgill | Kelsey Yance (Stranglethorn Vale) |
| Undermine Clam Chowder | 2x Zesty Clam Meat, 1x Hot Spices, 1x Ice Cold Milk | Jabbey (Tanaris) |
| Monster Omelet | 1x Giant Egg, 2x Soothing Spices | Himmik (Winterspring), Malygen or Bale (Felwood) |
| Tender Wolf Steak | 1x Tender Wolf Meat, 1x Soothing Spices | Dirge Quikcleave (Tanaris) |
Skill Levels 275-300
The final push takes about 35 successful crafts. Both of these high-end fish dishes turn yellow at 290, so prepare for minor skill-up delays near the finish line.
| Recipe | Required Ingredients | Recipe Source & Location |
|---|---|---|
| Poached Sunscale Salmon | 1x Uncooked Sunscale Salmon | Gikkix (Tanaris) |
| Nightfin Soup | 1x Uncooked Nightfin Snapper, 1x Refreshing Spring Water | Gikkix (Tanaris) |
Hitting 300 unlocks the ability to craft end-game raiding food which is pretty important because most high-level guilds expect their raiders to show up with bags full of stat-boosting meals. Keeping a campfire handy and a steady supply of spices in your bank makes sure youโre always ready to re-buff the group after a wipe.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why canโt I use the town cooking fires anymore?
Developers disabled static town cooking fires to encourage the new player-made campfire mechanics. Youโll need Simple Wood and Flint and Tinder to drop your own fire, or you can use a campfire created by another player in a populated hub.
What is the best food to cook while leveling?
Early on, Crab Cakes are incredibly valuable in the 75-150 bracket. Eating them grants a 5% experience buff for 15 minutes, making them the best food for early leveling before transitioning into high-end stat food.
