If you’re like me and recently rolled a new Hunter in World of Warcraft. And if you’re new to the game or just starting fresh with a new character, then you’ve probably hit the same wall I did: you need your pet taming tomes.
I got my Hunter to level 80 after unlocking Earthen, only to realize I needed to unlock specific tomes to tame mechanical and cloud serpents and a few others. The Mecha-Bond Imprint Matrix was easy. I just grabbed it off the Auction House. Done.
But tone of the others — “How to School Your Serpent” –that’s where things got annoying.
You can only get it from San Redscale in Jade Forest, and the catch is that you need to be Exalted with the Order of the Cloud Serpent to even buy it.
If you’ve Googled it, you’ve probably seen all the guides saying it’s a grind. That it takes hours and hours of questing, dailies, and patience.
But I did it in one hour.
Yep. One. Hour.
So if you’re trying to hit Exalted with Order of the Cloud Serpent quickly, for the tome, the mounts, or just the rep, let me show you exactly how I did it.
Step-by-Step: How to Unlock Dailies and Farm Onyx Eggs for Order of the Cloud Serpent Rep
Before you start grinding Order of the Cloud Serpent reputation, you’ll need a few items. Head to the Auction House and pick up:
- 5x Fish Cakes
- 10x Windwool Bandages
These are for some of the daily quests you’ll unlock shortly. If you get quests for archaeology or fishing, ignore those. They’re too time consuming and only slow you down.
Unlocking Order of the Cloud Serpent Daily Quests
Next, head to the Arboretum in The Jade Forest. Find Instructor Tong and pick up the quest “Wild Things.” This kicks off the chain you need to unlock the dailies.
Arboretum coords: 57.56, 44.95
If you’re level 80 (The War Within cap), you’ll get through this questline in under five minutes.
Quick tip: When you get the quest to leash Cloud Serpent hatchlings, just grab all of them at once. No need to run back and forth.
Once the quest chain is done and your dailies are unlocked, go knock them out. Do the ones you prepped for (fish cakes, bandages, and kill quests). This should take about 10 minutes max.
By now, you’ll be close to Revered, or already there.
Boost Your Rep Gains With Grand Commendation & Onyx Egg Farming
If you’ve hit Revered, head to San Redscale at the Arboretum and buy the “Grand Commendation of the Order of the Cloud Serpent” for 50 gold. This doubles your reputation gains going forward.
Next, install the “Cloud Serpent Onyx Eggs” addon from CurseForge. You’ll also need TomTom installed. If you don’t have it yet, get it. Trust me.
Once the addon’s running, type /onyx in chat. You’ll see all the Onyx Egg spawn locations marked on your map. Go collect as many as you can.
Bring them back to Elder Anli in the Arboretum. Turn them in via the “Onyx To Goodness” repeatable quest. After that, grab the quest “They Grow Like Weeds,” which starts your Cloud Serpent Sky Training. It’s a short chain, there’s only four quests and it’s super quick to finish.
Go collect another round of eggs, hand them in, and just like that you’re Exalted with the Order of the Cloud Serpent.
You may need a few extra eggs depending on how many spawned in your two runs. But if you followed this method, you should hit Exalted in under one hour.
Skip the old method of farming Firestorm Cloud Serpents. The egg drop rate sucks, and they’re a pain to kill. This egg farming method is faster, easier, and way less frustrating.
Wrapping It Up: Exalted with Order of the Cloud Serpent in Under an Hour
Yep, it really is that easy. Because Mists of Pandaria is now nearly 13 years old, reputation gains have been boosted at some point. Most of the guides you’ll find online are completely outdated. They’ll tell you it takes hours or even days. But that’s no longer true.
No one’s really maintaining guides for old expansions anymore, which is why I wanted to write this. Now you know how quick it actually is to get Exalted with the Order of the Cloud Serpent without the grind or the misinformation.
And hey, if you’re into mount collecting like I am, this rep grind is a double win. You’ll get a cloud serpent mount just from completing the basic and sky training quests, and once you hit Exalted, you’ll unlock the rest of the Order of the Cloud Serpent mount options for purchase.
Oh and there’s a toy, too. I had to grab that. Collection tabs don’t fill themselves.
So that’s it. One hour, one addon, a couple fish cakes, and some eggs and you’ve got the rep, the mount, and the tome for hunters.
