I’ve been playing Dragon Age Veilguard for a few days now, and something clicked. I I was loving it. So much so that I realized I wasn’t ready to stop when it was over. I wanted more of Dragon Age. I wanted to dive deeper into Thedas, its stories, its characters, its lore.
After talking it over with Bea, I decided to explore the older games in the series. But then another realization hit me: jumping into them out of order might not be the best idea. Spoilers would inevitably ruin key moments before I even got there.
It’d be like River Song traveling through the Doctor’s timeline in reverse. (Yes, that’s a Doctor Who reference. No, I’m not sorry.)
So, instead of going all the way back to the beginning of the series, I took Bea’s advice. She recommended starting with Dragon Age: Inquisition—her favourite—and that’s exactly what I decided to do.
But before I hit pause on Veilguard to shift gears, I wanted to put my thoughts into words. This game deserves that much, and I know I’ll come back to it later, picking up right where I left off.

A New Perspective on Gaming
Outside of Final Fantasy XIV, my experience with video games has been practically non-existent. Unless you count hours of Solitaire or the occasional bout of Minesweeper, I’ve never been much of a gamer. So jumping into a game like Dragon Age Veilguard was both exciting and, honestly, a bit overwhelming. It’s a completely different experience from an MMORPG, with its unique mechanics, storytelling style, and the way it pulls you into the world.
When it came time to pick a class, I chose Rogue. After spending so much time with magic-based combat in FFXIV, I was ready for something new. Launching the game, I had no idea what to expect. I assumed the Warrior class would be a tank—and I wanted to avoid that—but now that I’ve played for a while, I think either choice would’ve worked for me. That said, I’m having a blast playing Rogue.
The Characters That Keep Me Hooked
One of the things I’ve loved most about Final Fantasy XIV is its incredible storytelling and compelling characters. I wasn’t sure if Veilguard would hit that same mark, but it’s managed to surprise me. The characters are rich and layered, offering far more than their surface impressions.
Take Bellara, for example. In my fast-paced writing style while playing, I’ve joked that she’s always going on about her gods and probably a sub. But Bellara is so much more than that. As a magical elf, she’s deeply impacted by the events unfolding around her. She’s written with a balance of fear, courage, and a curiosity that keeps her evolving. Watching her navigate those layers has been a highlight, and I can’t wait to see where her journey takes her.
A Visual Feast
The world of Dragon Age Veilguard is visually stunning. Every zone I’ve explored so far feels like a work of art, and I find myself torn between wanting to stay in one area and racing to the next to see what’s waiting for me. The graphics are so breathtaking that it’s impossible not to admire the level of detail put into this game.
But it’s not just the visuals that draw me in—it’s the world-building. The Codex entries, the scraps of notes left behind, the overheard conversations between NPCs, and the subtle details in every corner all make Thedas feel alive and real. It’s immersive in a way that makes me want to dig deeper, to uncover every little piece of lore the game has to offer.
Taking a Pause, Not Saying Goodbye
While I’m pausing my playthrough of Veilguard to dive into Inquisition (following Bea’s excellent advice), I’m far from done with this game. I’ll be back as soon as I finish Inquisition to pick up where I left off, and you’ll be able to follow every step of that journey here on the blog.
